In London, Mexico City, Athens, New Delhi, Seoul and two dozen other cities, artists, activists and supporters of Amnesty International “Circled Up” to form more than 24 aerial art images in 24 hours.

Amnesty International teamed up with Circle Up Now to deliver this powerful “visual petition” representing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2008, and consisted of thousands of participants worldwide making an appeal to their leaders to honor and defend basic human rights.

On November 2, 2008, Amnesty International and Circle Up Now teamed up once again, this time to produce an historic tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On the Mississippi riverfront of Memphis, Amnesty International and its supporters united to honor Dr. King and other local civil rights heroes by forming into a human aerial art image depicting Dr. King’s likeness along with the words, “Keep the Dream Alive”.

Produced by CIRCLE UP NOW supporting the EVERY HUMAN HAS RIGHTS campaign in partnership with THE ELDERS and ACTIONAID with additional support provided by TWENTY THOUSAND DRUMS

In support of the Every Human Has Rights campaign championed by The Elders (including Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan, Mary Robinson and many others) as well as ActionAid’s global food crisis campaign, on July 15th, 2008, Circle Up Now coordinated twenty-two hundred South African students gathered in a field in Alexandra Township,  Johannesburg, to participate in a community building workshop addressing the global food crisis. The event culminated in a large-scale human aerial artwork, depicting Nelson Mandela, with a message of “Freedom From Hunger” surrounded by one of the world’s largest ‘Ubuntu’ drumming circles.

The image, which was created in less than 7 minutes, was the launch to Circle Up Now’s aerial art tour of the summer of 2008.
